Blake Jones and the Katin Pro-Am Team Challenge

Blake Jones is currently in Califorinia preparing to compete in the Katin Pro-Am Team Challenge for Body Glove. Contestable conditions are moving into Huntington Beach for the weekend and the legendary Katin Pro-Am Team Challenge presented by Sports 1 Marketing is confirmed to run this Friday, 1/7 and Saturday, 1/8 at the Huntington Beach Pier starting at 8 a.m. each day.

The forecast for the two-day event looks promising with solid swell and favorable conditions predicted by official forecaster Surfline.com. For Friday, a new long-period WNW groundswell (290-300+ deg) will build in and take over, topping out late in the day. Sets will gradually build from three-to-four foot in the morning, to four-to-five foot over the afternoon. Occasional overhead waves will show late in the day and a very small SSW swell (190-200 deg) will mix in to offer occasional crossed up peaks.

Saturday will bring slow easing WNW swell (290-300+ deg); strongest early in the day. Sets will hang mainly in the four-to-five foot range in the morning with occasional overhead waves early. A very small SSW swell (190-200 deg) will mix in to offer occasional crossed up peaks.

Competition will begin on Friday morning at 8 a.m. running all heats of Round 1 and the first few heats of Round 2 if conditions allow. A Primo-sponsored after party and movie premiere of “California, for better or worse†will take place on Friday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Hilton Waterfront Resort. On Saturday, competition will begin at 8 a.m., completing Round 2, followed by the Quarters, Semis and the Final. A past champions heat is also planned featuring former World Champions. The Awards ceremony and Primo-sponsored after party will occur immediately following the conclusion of competition on Saturday at Sandys Beach Grill (below Dukes) at approximately 3 p.m.

20 teams are confirmed to compete, stacked with a bevy of talent including three-time ASP World Champion Tom Curren (Rip Curl), former World Champion and Hawaiian legend, Sunny Garcia (17th Street/Mauli Ola Foundation), last years reigning Katin Champion, Chris Waring (Dragon) and several other former World Tour surfers.
