Taylor Clark added to the 2011 PacSun USA Surf Team

Apr/29/2011

With a stacked squad that includes Kolohe Andino, Evan Geiselman, and Conner Coffin, the PacSun USA Surf Team is stacked with talent going into the 2011 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships in Peru. Encinitas grom Taylor Clark makes his first appearance on the international stage as part of the team and will be surfing in the Under 16 division. We are stoked to be making Taylor’s equipment going into such a prestigious event. I can imagine how psyched Taylor is at the opportunity to showcase his skills alongside such big names in the world of Junior surfing.

Coach Ian Cairns is expecting big things from Team USA this year. As he said, “On paper we have maybe the best Junior Team ever. But we are going as underdogs with a lot to prove. The USA has never won this event; and, as underdog contenders, we’re going to be the hardest working, most aggro team in Peru.” Being “aggro” could be a good thing or a bad one, but all we know is the squad is set and now it’s time for the kids to show up and bring home the gold.

With a roster like ours there should be no excuses. The talent pool that the USA has bred should do some major damage if they work together. We must also not count out the competition as they never roll over to the big names that they see in the mags. They want it just as bad or even more than anyone else. Ian Cairns has to do his job to pull the team together and make them perform, or off with his head!

Surfing America press release:

San Juan Capistrano, Calif. – April 27, 2011 – Surfing America, the National Governing Body (NGB) for Surfing in the United States, announced today the PacSun USA Surf Team for the 2011 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships in Peru. The event begins May 21st and runs through May 29th at the incredible surf breaks of Punta Hermosa. The United States brings its most talented team ever to this year’s event and looks to capture the elusive World Championship Title.

“On paper we have maybe the best Junior Team ever,” said PacSun USA Surf Team Head Coach, Ian Cairns. “But we are going as underdogs with a lot to prove. The USA has never won this event; and, as underdog contenders, we’re going to be the hardest working, most aggro team in Peru.”

The surfing will take place at “Senoritas y Caballeros” in Punta Hermosa, approximately 40 minutes, or 42 kilometers from Lima. Both waves break from one to three meters over a rock bottom. Señoritas is a long, fun left with plenty of power that barrels on its best days. Caballeros is a well-known classic right of Lima, with super long rides that on the best days can last up to 300 meters.

“Again, we have an incredible team this year,” added Cairns. “Surfing America has done amazing things for the competitive surfing system in the United States–and this team is a testament to the fact that the Surfing America system is working! I believe we have a real chance against the other countries and we’re looking forward to bringing the show to Peru!”
