Were not as good as he hoped, but other than that Blake Jones performed well, flaring up every chance he got. Aaron Cormican ended up taking the win as he usually does in any comp in Florida. He added $2000 to his bank account by the end of the day.

Cheyne Magnusson had his first session in over two years today at Backdoor and his first session in Hawaii so far. It wasn’t super crowded and the North swell made the rights super hollow. Cheyne was lucky to be able to pick off the gem of the session.
Not many guys have the ability to hop right off the plane into overhead Backdoor Pipe and get the good ones. Mike Gleason shot us a text psyching that Cheyne got a good one right away. Hopefully this is a good sign and Cheyne will score the rest of his time in the Islands. Stay tuned for more updates from Cheyne in Hawaii.

If you missed the Surfer Poll last night here is a beautiful tribute piece they put together for the late, great Andy Irons. Worth watching and sharing.

As we sit through another flat spell here on the west coast the east coast enjoyed a traditional fall style swell last week. It gets pretty discouraging when you go and look at the ocean and think if it’s possible to ride a shortboard. Then you go to your office and your email box is filled with pics of guys getting full barrels.
With all the traveling that team rider PJ Raia does he still has the luck and timing to get the good ones while at home. As the photographic evidence shows, New Jersey lit up providing Garden State surfers a few hours of epicness. Granted their swells have a very unfamiliar short window, but I would trade our 5 day mushy swells for a few hours of tubes any day.

As some may know, Mr. Mike Gleason has made it back over to the islands. Unfortunately he arrived just in time for a Hawaiian flat spell. Here is a little insight to what he does when it gets flat as well as a pic of the 2 fresh step up boards we sent over to him. Hopefully Hawaii turns around (as it should) and he gets the chance to snag a couple big ones.

Local Encinitas grom Taylor Clark has been on a tear lately and hasn’t stopped since we have started making him boards. His parents recently threw him in the car and took the little drive up north to Newport to compete in the VQS Starfish Series at River Jetties. It turned out to be a good call as he took down local favorite Kanoa Igarashi in the Grom division.

WAY OF THE OCEAN is directed by Matt Kleiner and is a five part movie series exploring the worlds oceans and the surf they provide. Australia is the first film in the series set for release early 2011 and from the look of the trailer it looks like something shot by National Geographic. The imagery is awesome. Not to mention the lineup of surfers set to star in the film: Asher Pacey, Josh Kerr, Taj Burrow, Kelly Slater, Jordy Smith, Dane Reynolds, Craig Anderson, and Adam Robertson. Adam Robertson is who we most anticipate considering he has some clips ripping on some of the Chemistrys that Jason Bennett shaped for him this past summer. Looks like it could be a good one.

Staying true to the now annual tradition of Fall Baja trips, Jason Bennett and Cheyne Magnusson saw the stars align on the swell report and charged down to Baja hoping to get tubed. Fall is our time when there is perfect swell and conditions for Northern Baja and Jason and Cheyne know what to look for to score. The photos don’t lie. They timed the first significant Northwest swell just right and scored good sized tubes with ideal offshore wind conditions. Not a bad way to start off the season.

Besides chasing waves throughout the Northeast, Mike Gleason made the semis in the Garden State Grudge Match. The waves were once again pretty fun and the conditions were typical Northeast fall magic. Losing to the eventual winner he went out swinging throwing down his patented power hacks the whole event. It looks like he has to look forward to next year to reclaim the coveted belt.
