Chem Wax: Premium High-Performance Surfboard Wax | Chemistry

Chem Wax: Maximum Traction & Grip For Your Surfboard

Every surfer knows that your connection to your board is everything. You can have the most finely tuned, high-performance custom shape in the world, but if your feet are slipping, your session is over before it starts.

That’s why we developed Chem Wax—our premium, formula-driven surfboard wax designed to deliver an ultra-sticky, long-lasting grip that keeps you locked in through critical turns, heavy sections, and massive airs.

The Chem Wax Advantage: Engineered for Performance

We didn't just slap our logo on a generic block of wax. Chem Wax was rigorously tested by our team riders in everything from cold, local California beach breaks to the warm points of Central America.

  • Advanced Formula: Designed to build perfect, tight bumps effortlessly without smearing or flaking off mid-session.

  • Maximum Stick: Delivers a tacky, reliable grip exactly where your feet land, giving you total control over your rail-to-rail transitions.

  • Long-Lasting Traction: Formulated to stay on your board longer, meaning less time re-waxing before a session and more time in the lineup.

Find Your Temperature Profile

To get the most out of your wax job, you need to match your wax to the ocean temperature. Chem Wax is carefully formulated for distinct climate zones so you never have to worry about your wax melting off or hardening up:

1. Cool / Cold Water Formula

Perfect for the winter months and northern climates. This blend stays soft and ultra-tacky even when the water drops, ensuring your feet stay glued to the deck during freezing dawn patrols.

2. Warm / Tropical Water Formula

Built to withstand the heat. This harder formula is designed not to melt under intense sun or in tropical water temps, making it your go-to choice for summer sessions and surf trips.

How to Apply Chem Wax for the Perfect Grip

For the ultimate surfboard traction setup, we recommend a cross-hatch application technique:

  1. Strip the Deck: Start with a completely clean, dewaxed surfboard deck.

  2. The Basecoat: Apply a firm, hard basecoat wax first to build up structured, cross-hatched bumps.

  3. The Topcoat: Lightly rub your temperature-specific Chem Wax over the basecoat bumps to lock in that premium, sticky texture.

Stock Up for Your Next Session

Don't be the person begging for a scrape of wax in the parking lot. Keep your car, track pad, and board bag fully stocked with the stickiest formula in the game.

Whether you’re riding a brand-new custom shortboard or dusting off your favorite hybrid, Chem Wax is the final link between you and your board's true potential. Available online or at our Oceanside showroom.

Inside Chemistry Surfboards: Premium Custom Craftsmanship Since 2002

The Chemistry Surfboards Story: Where Professional Surfing Heritage Meets Custom Craftsmanship

Chemistry Surfboards isn't just another name in the surfboard industry—we are a legacy brand born directly from the surf culture of Southern California. Since 2002, we have dedicated ourselves to handcrafting premium custom surfboards right here in Oceanside, California.

For nearly a quarter of a century, we have combined high-level competitive experience with innovative shaping techniques to give surfers exactly what they need: a high-performance, responsive, and truly personalized wave-riding experience.

Our Founders’ Professional Surfing Heritage

Our roots in the water run deep. Chemistry Surfboards was founded by professional surfers who spent years competing, traveling, and studying wave mechanics at the highest level before stepping into the shaping bay:

  • Jason Bennett: Professional surfer for over a decade, bringing world-class wave knowledge and elite design feedback to every single shape.

  • Willie Smith: Competitor with an extensive background in surf dynamics and our current COO, ensuring every board meets strict performance standards.

Because we gained our experience in heavy jerseys and demanding lineups, we possess a unique insight into what makes an exceptional surfboard perform when it matters most.

The Chemistry Advantage: Why Choose a Premium Custom Surfboard?

1. Unmatched Customization & Industry-Leading Turnaround

While corporate surfboard companies make you wait months for a custom shape, we maintain a highly efficient 4-to-6 week custom surfboard delivery timeline. We offer a truly personalized service where you can work directly with the shapers. It’s exactly why we maintain a 75% repeat customer rate—our quality, performance, and customer service speak for themselves.

2. 100% American-Made Excellence Via Zoo Lam Works

We believe in supporting local artisans and maintaining total control over our production chain. Every single board is 100% USA-manufactured in-house through our dedicated Zoo Lam Works glassing and manufacturing division. By eliminating outsourcing, our Oceanside facility maintains a strict 120-boards-per-month capacity, prioritizing absolute quality and premium craftsmanship over mass-production shortcuts.

Our Comprehensive Surfboard Collection

Whether you are hunting for everyday performance, dialing in your groveler game, or looking for a retro dynamic, our shape lineup covers the entire spectrum:

  • High-Performance Shortboards: Tuned for progressive, critical surfing.

  • Small Wave Specialists & Performance Hybrids: Maximizing wave count and speed in everyday conditions.

  • Twin Fins, Fishes, & Specialty Crafts: For alternative lines, flow, and style.

  • Quiver Essentials ($775 - $800): Proven shapes including the Beaker, Disk 2, Disk, 4x4, Alchemist, The 23, Pantera Rosa, The Zenith, and Zen 4 Deluxe.

  • Flextronic II Surfboard Technology: Maximum Pop & Responsive Flex

Next-Gen Performance: Introducing Flextronic II Surfboard Technology

At Chemistry Surfboards, we are constantly pushing the limits of the traditional surfboard manufacturing assembly line. In 2017, we fundamentally changed the game by introducing our original Flextronic tech—reinventing how a board feels, flexes, and performs from its core. Now, after rigorous R&D and heavy testing on heavy waves by shaper Jason Bennett and our team riders, we are proud to launch Flextronic II.

If you are looking for a board that is significantly lighter, incredibly strong, and keeps its brand-new "pop" for the entire lifespan of the board, Flextronic II is the ultimate upgrade for your quiver.

Flextronic II represents the next generation of our high-response construction, re-engineered for surfers who demand a more durable and high performance board.

This second-iteration technology starts with a premium PU Blank featuring a 3.00mm PVC stringer, a high-performance alternative to traditional timber. Unlike wood, which suffers from cellular fatigue and loses its 'pop' over time, PVC is an advanced synthetic with a permanent memory.

The deck is reinforced with 6oz ETX-HEXglass for superior impact resistance and "foot-feel," while the bottom features a vacuum-bagged Carbon Fiber wrap. This specific combination creates a unique tension—the carbon bottom provides immediate, kinetic spring-back, while the PU core and HEXglass deck maintain the dampened, organic flow of a traditional board.

    • Version 2.0: Refined flex patterns and increased durability.

    • PVC Stringer: Enhanced structural integrity over traditional wood.

    • Carbon Vacuum Bagging: Maximum strength-to-weight ratio with lightning-fast energy return.

Available for any model in our lineup.

    Watch the Ultimate Flex Test

We don't just talk about premium surfboard technology—we prove it. Watch head shaper Jason Bennett put the Flextronic II through its paces, laying down heavy rail tracks and testing its structural limits on the world-class points of El Salvador.

    Upgrade Your Next Chemistry Custom

Flextronic II is hands down the most advanced high-performance technology available across the entire Chemistry Surfboards lineup. From our daily shortboards to hybrid models, you can select the Flextronic II upgrade on almost any shape we build.

Ready to feel the difference of an engineered composite flex? Order your next custom board with Flextronic II online, or swing by our Oceanside showroom to check it out in person.

Chemistry Collective Vol. 4: "Timeless" Surf & Music Collaboration

Timeless: Chemistry Collective Vol. 4 | The Intersection of Surf, Music, & Heritage

The Chemistry Collective is an annual, limited-edition collaborative project that bridges the gap between underground music, authentic surf culture, art, and community. What began as a tight-knit partnership between Chemistry Surfboards and legendary hip-hop producer Thes One (of People Under the Stairs) has evolved into a globally respected, culture-forward platform.

To celebrate our 4th year, we are proud to introduce the “Timeless” capsule—a conceptual crossover exploring the relationships between music theory, distinct historical eras of surf culture, and timepieces themselves.

The Timeless Limited Edition Product Drop

To anchor this collaboration, we’ve created an ultra-exclusive collector's bundle. The release is strictly limited to just 280 units worldwide and includes:

    • Custom Laser-Engraved Wooden Box Set: Housing four 7” 45rpm records pressed on distinct, custom colorway vinyl.

    • Exclusive Collaboration Journal: Documenting the creative process behind the volume.

    • Custom Nixon x Thes One Watch: Designed by Thes One, this premium timepiece mirrors the aesthetic of a classic analogue audio VU Meter.

    Musical Contributions From:

The exclusive vinyl includes custom tracks and beats curated by: Thes One, People Under The Stairs, Kyle Rapps, Tha God Fahim, Blame One, Jason Bennett, and DJ Chaps.

The Concept: 5 Decades. 5 Teams. 1 Vision.

Alongside the physical capsule, we launched the "Timeless" Video Contest—a cinematic tribute to the raw evolution of surf heritage, board shapes, and style.

To bring this concept to life, Jason Bennett meticulously hand-shaped 5 period-correct replica surfboards representing five distinct design eras. We paired 10 local athletes into teams of two, tasked with creating a 90-second video edit capturing the style, art, music, and performance of their assigned generation.

    The Roster & Surf Eras:

Project 1992: Retro Performance Surfboard Design | Chemistry Surfboards

    Saturday, June 28th | 4PM-9PM | 602 S. Tremont St, Oceanside, CA

At Chemistry Surfboards, we believe that some moments in time are so powerful they continue to shape us decades later. Project 1992 is our tribute to one of those defining moments—a cultural paradigm shift in surf, art, and music that happened worldwide back in 1992.

    The Story Behind Project 1992

The inspiration for Project 1992 began with Thes One from People Under the Stairs, who approached us with an idea rooted in the hip hop music revolution of 1992. When Thes One brought this concept to Chemistry Surfboards, Jason and Will immediately connected with the vision and knew they could bring something special to it. 1992 was a pivotal year that marked major cultural shifts across multiple scenes—from the golden era of hip hop to the emergence of grunge rock, the music landscape was transforming. Simultaneously, surfing was experiencing its own revolution with the arrival of the "New School" led by Kelly Slater and the Momentum Generation, who brought a completely different approach to performance surfing. Together, we infused Thes One's hip hop inspiration with the art and surf culture elements that made 1992 such a transformative year, creating this incredible celebration that honors all aspects of that cultural paradigm shift.

The Video Contest: Bringing 1992 Back to Life

What makes this event truly special is our Project 1992 video contest. We invited 18 talented surfers and selected four contestants to participate in something unprecedented—a chance to surf authentic 1992 replica surfboards and showcase their skills in a 90-second video edit.
